2024 scratches

Sadly, we have your first (and hopefully only) scratch.
I was hoping we would have a scratch free year for the first time ever, so far they are a tight pack from front to back.

Erin Altemus scratched in Ruby :(

Rookie Iditarod musher, Erin Altemus (bib #23), of Grand Marais, Minnesota, scratched at 9:38 a.m. today at the Ruby checkpoint in the best interest of her team.

Altemus had 10 dogs in harness when she arrived in Ruby, all in good health.

scratched at 2:25 p.m. today at the Nulato checkpoint pursuant to Rule 42.
Teaford had 12 dogs in harness when he made the decision to scratch.

Anchorage, Alaska – Rookie Iditarod musher, Connor McMahon (bib #3), of Carcross, Yukon Territory, Canada, scratched at 4:30 p.m. today at the Galena checkpoint in the best interest of his team.

McMahon had 11 dogs in harness when he arrived in Galena, all in good health.

Veteran Iditarod musher Deke Naaktgeboren scratches at the Nulato Checkpoint

Veteran Iditarod musher, Deke Naaktgeboren (bib #34), of Fairbanks, Alaska, scratched at 8:19 p.m. today at the Nulato checkpoint in the best interest of his team.

Naaktgeboren had 10 dogs in harness when he arrived in Nulato, all in good health.

Sadly Hunter is out under Rule 42 also....lost a dog out of Kaltag running to UNK.

so so sad...too much PETA bait.

Veteran Aaron Burmeister scratches at the Unalakleet Checkpoint

Veteran Iditarod musher, Aaron Burmeister (bib #29), of Nome/Nenana, Alaska, scratched at 11:00 a.m. today at the Unalakleet checkpoint. Burmeister’s reasoning for scratching is “to help promote the mental wellness and health of my team in the future.”

Burmeister had 11 dogs in harness when he arrived in Unalakleet, all in good health.

Just listened to Aaron's interview from early this morning.

He said there's nothing wrong with the team - they've been eating and drinking and are fat, but the fire's just not there - they have been really flat the whole race ... and he doesn't know why.
