This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

Looks like I'm might be going to Alaska for about 3-4 weeks! I'm lucky in that my sister and her husband live in Wasilla and have invited me to stay with them.
I'd like to see if I can join an Iditarod team as a Handler, or volunteer in some capacity.
I'm thinking about going to Nome to watch some of the finishers. I guess it's really hard to find lodging for the finish, but that many of the people clear out as soon as a winner crosses the under the Arch. So maybe I can find a place to stay for 2-3 nights.
Are any of my IditaBuddies showing up for the Iditarod Start, or in Nome? I'd LOVE to meet you!

StarDancer wonderful!!!
I hoe you go to Nome in time to attend the finishers' banquet, that was a lot of fun. I stayed at the Nugget Inn, simple room just what I needed.
All my children have four feet and fur.

Highly recommend the Nome Nugget--even if the Polaris were still standing!

StarDancer that is brilliant! So, so pleased for you. I just know you'll have a fantastic time. I knew no-one when I went in 2018 and found everyone sooooo friendly that I never actually felt alone. So I know you'll have a fab time. Enjoy! And please, please, report if you can.
