Just heard that Karin Hendrickson and her team were hit by a car. Her team is being recovered, and Karin was taken to the hospital in serious condition. That's about all I know. If anyone has any info, please update. Thanks.

She has a broken back and a broken leg. Looks like she will be out of the Iditarod. I hope she can make a full recovery.

Not sure yet if all of the dogs have been found.

Updates from Tamra Reynolds FB page this afternoon:

ALL Karin's team dogs that were involved are safely home, only minor injuries among the dogs.

Karin is in Anchorage, last report she was waiting for a Neuro specialist for a work-up/evaluation, the hard part of that is she isn't able to receive any pain meds until the Neuro does get there and see what is what.

Karin's Mom is up to date, I don't know whether she is flying to Anch yet or not.

Thanks for posting, Em & Breeze.

Karin's sister posted on FB that Karin does not need surgery so that's certainly good news!

More good news: A friend of hers just posted that Karin's leg is badly hurt but NOT broken, and her spine is broken in 3 places but they are "stable breaks".

Karin's mom said that Karin buys her dog food from Underdog Feeds and it sounds like donations for dog food is what she would like if anyone wants to do something for her.

A good point was made on FB that Paypal and Gofundme (2 other ways to donate to her) both take a percentage cut from donations, but Underdog Feeds will apply 100% of any donation to Karin's account. I just called Underdog Feeds and spoke with the manager, John Norris. Easy peasy to donate, and it's true, 100% of the donations are going to Karin for dog feed or any other supplies she might need. (Underdog Feeds is basically a musher supply store.). John is covering the bank transaction fees himself as a donation. He also said a bag of the dog food that Karin uses is $62.95, but a donation of any amount is appreciated and will be applied as a credit on Karin's account. To donate, call 907-373-6851. I talked for a bit with John about the accident. That stretch of highway doesn't have much traffic and he found it freakish that a vehicle slid off the road at the exact spot Karin was at the exact same moment. He said the vehicle is pretty messed up, so you know she had to have gotten hit hard. Please consider donating; any amount is okay as it all adds up.

Get well soon, Karin!!!

Been busy the last couple of days with no computer time, not even newspaper reading time either, though I doubt the Orlando paper will have much about this accident.
Just saw the head line about Karin on yahoo and headed here as soon as I read the scary news. I knew it would already be known here. The yahoo article led to this one in the Alaska Dispatch News.

Sorry Karin will miss this season, but sure am glad she will heal and the best news...that her dogs weren't injured.

Thank you Heidi for getting the info about donating at Underdog Feeds.

As usual the glick person is spouting her lies in the comment section. What a cruel, clueless liar.

This info in from Karin's Mom, Gwen.

"Her new addy is Alaska Regional Hospital, 2811 De Barr Rd., Anchorage 99508. She wants visitors as she can't stand the place."

I think this is rehab and that's no fun. Remember Karin is intensekarin on this forum.

Not that many of us can visit but we can send her a card and let Karin know the Iditabuds are thinking about her and wishing her speedy recovery.

Thanks, 'buds.

Today on her FB page:
"When they told me I would need at least two weeks at inpatient rehab they were wrong. I'm gonna be outta here so fast they'll barely remember me. Went from wheelchair to walker to cane to free walking in one day. I'm not messing around here!"
