They may be slogging through sog in Alaska, but the cold has been relentless here in Maine. The annual Mushers Bowl, held in Bridgton, Maine, will go forward this year, but under a slightly different format. If anyone is in the area, this is a great event and spectator friendly. It's a technical course, with lots of hills and sharp turns. Mushers often tell people new to the sport not to make the Mushers Bowl their first race. It can get pretty exciting.
Here's an update from Nooksack Racing Supply, a major sponsor: We will be holding the Musher’s Bowl as a fun run with no ISDRA points or purse. Although you can set a snow hook everywhere on the track, the surface was not yet groomed out for the race and at the time of the viewing was icy with 6 inches + of corn snow below and 4 inches of new snow above. At this time there are no banks or berms to keep a sled from sliding off of some of the major corners. The speed of the competitive teams could be unmanageable for less than experienced drivers. Once the trails are groomed we feel the course will be safe for a fun race/training.
